Medical Facilities

The biggest clinic in the South Caribbean area is located in the quaint village of Hone Creek, 2 miles
(5 minutes drive) from Samasati Nature Retreat. Twenty-five doctors with different specializations are available at the clinic. An average of 120 patients, from the nearby local communities, are seen and cared for daily in Hone Creek Clinic, which also has an Emergency Room facility. The health system in Costa Rica takes a very good care of the population. For locals medical services are free and for foreigners in need, very affordable.
The nearest hospital whit surgery capability is in the city of Limon, 35 miles North of Samasati.

Schools

  • Centro Educativo Playa Chiquita Punta Uva
25 minutes from Samasati, This private but inexpensive pre-kinder through sixth grade school teaches in the Waldorf method, and is one of over 350 Waldorf Schools worldwide. It is accredited by the Costa Rican education ministry. It has a nearly year round calendar with classes starting in mid-February and ending in mid-January. The school was founded five years ago by a group of concerned citizens looking for an alternative to traditional schooling. Phone: 506-750-0754. 
  • Colegio Bri Bri
Public school grades7-12 in Bri Bri, 20 minutes from Samasati. Curiculum in Spanish, with mornings spent in class and afternoons spent in vocational-technical training.
  • Colegio Cahuita
Public school grades 7-12 in Cahuita, 25 minutes from Samasati. Curriculum taught in Spanish and English, with an all  academic curriculum.
